Three ledgers, one boat

Turns

A shared calendar with each partner in their own colour. One boat means one turn at a time: overlapping days are refused, with the clash named. Deal a whole season of weekends in proportion to the shares, holidays rotating year to year.

How turns work

Engine hours

Log the hours off the meter and the fuel you added. Keelshare totals each partner's running time by year, so fuel and engine wear can be split by who actually used the boat.

How hours work

Money

Every shared cost, who paid it and how it splits: by shares, by hours, equally or to one partner. Splits are exact to the cent. Balances always add up to zero, and settle-up shows the fewest payments that clear them.

How the money works

A worked season

Ana owns half. Ben and Cal a quarter each.

Ana paid the slip, Ben the insurance, and Cal the season's fuel, which they agreed to split by engine hours (Ana 20.0, Ben 10.0, Cal 12.0). This table is computed by the same code that runs a real partnership.

Keelshare does not move money. The partners pay each other however they like and record it, and the balances follow.

Fair rotation

27 weekends, dealt by share

May to October 2027, three partners at 50/25/25. Holiday weekends are dealt first in an order that moves one place each year; every other weekend goes to whoever is furthest behind their share. Ana gets 13, Ben 7, Cal 7.

Questions partners ask

Do we need accounts?

No. A partnership is a private link. Share it with your partners; anyone with the link can see and change it, so keep it among yourselves. We store only a scrambled form of the key, so a lost link cannot be recovered.

Does Keelshare collect or pay out money?

No. It records what each partner paid and works out who owes whom. You pay each other your own way and record the transfer.

What if our shares change?

Change them on the Partners page. Costs already entered keep the split they were entered with; costs split by engine hours always use the hours logged for their calendar year.

Is this a legal agreement?

No. It is a shared record. The co-ownership checklist lists what partners commonly put in writing; a lawyer in your state can draft the agreement itself.
